Matcha degrades when exposed to air, light and moisture. An airtight, lightproof canister protects the chlorophyll, aroma and flavour that make good matcha worth drinking. Without proper storage, even first-harvest matcha can fade from vibrant jade to dull khaki within a few weeks of opening.
This canister comfortably holds a full 100g bag of matcha with room to spare, or up to 150g of loose powder. The extra headroom makes scooping easier without spilling.
Yes. The inner lid creates a sealed environment that minimises air contact with the powder. For best results, press the inner lid down directly onto the matcha surface before closing the outer lid — this reduces the air gap inside the canister.
The fridge is not recommended — frequent temperature changes when you take the canister in and out cause condensation inside, which damages the matcha. A cool, dark cupboard away from the stove is the best location. If you want to freeze matcha for long-term storage, freeze the sealed original bag and only transfer to the canister once you are ready to open and use it daily.
The Kaori Blossom canister features a steel inner body with a decorative origami-style outer shell. The steel construction is fully lightproof and food-safe, with a snug-fitting inner lid for an airtight seal.
Yes — the airtight seal works equally well for loose-leaf green tea, hojicha, or ground coffee. However, strongly scented contents (like flavoured teas or coffee) can leave residual aromas in the canister. If you switch contents, wash and fully air-dry the canister first.
Wipe the inside with a dry cloth between refills. If a deeper clean is needed, hand-wash with warm water and mild soap, then dry completely — inside and out — before refilling. Do not put it in the dishwasher, as this can damage the decorative finish and compromise the seal.
Yes — the origami-pattern design is eye-catching and the canister is useful long after the first bag of matcha is finished. Pair it with a bag of our Kagoshima Ceremonial Matcha and a bamboo chashaku for a practical, gift-ready set. Browse our matcha gifts collection for more ideas.
