What Is Ceremonial Grade Matcha?
Ceremonial grade matcha is the highest quality Japanese matcha, made from the youngest first-harvest (ichibancha) tea leaves grown specifically for drinking. At Iki Matcha Co, our ceremonial-grade matcha is sourced from Kagoshima, Japan, where tea plants are shade-grown before harvest to boost natural flavour, colour, and nutrients. The leaves are hand-selected, steamed, dried, and traditionally stone-ground into an ultra-fine powder.
What sets our ceremonial matcha apart is its balance of taste and function. The shading process raises naturally occurring L-theanine and chlorophyll, creating a smooth, vibrant green matcha with a rich umami flavour and minimal bitterness. The result: clean, sustained energy, calm focus, and an authentic Japanese matcha ritual enjoyed for centuries
