The Ancient Art of Tea

Matcha isnโ€™t just a trend. Its history dates back nearly a thousand years to a time when dynasties ruled China and Shogun clans ruled Japan. The origins of matcha can be traced all the way back to the Tang Dynasty in China (7th - 10th centuries). In 1191 it was brought from China to Japan by a Buddhist monk.

TWO

SHIFT

Using your scoop, place one scoop (1-1.5 tsp) of matcha into your sifter, over the whisking bowl. Use the scoop to help push the matcha through the sifter. Add 60 ml of 80ยฐC water into the whisking bowl atop the sifted powder.

THREE

WHISK

With your bamboo whisk, begin briskly whisking the matcha and water mixture. Move the whisk in a "W" or "M" formation to create froth. Continue whisking until the matcha is thoroughly mixed into the water and no clumps remain. At this point, there should be a nice froth created on top.
