Our Chashaku is handmade out of 100% bamboo and is used in the traditional Japanese tea ceremony to portion matcha. Unlike a metal spoon, a bamboo spoon does not charge itself statically, helping the matcha powder to slide off easily. Wipe it with a clean, dry towel after each use.
One bamboo spoon is about 1/3-1/2 of a teaspoon – so a normal serving size would be 2-3 bamboo scoops.
Cleaning Directions:
We recommend delicate handwashing with lukewarm water. There is no need to use a sponge; you can use your hands to avoid damaging the delicate bamboo. Allow your matcha spoon to air dry or pat it dry.
Our bamboo matcha scoops are not suitable for dishwashers.

One standard chashaku scoop holds approximately 0.5g of matcha powder. Two scoops (roughly 1g) is the standard single serve for a traditional bowl of whisked matcha (usucha). For lattes and stronger preparations, use three to four scoops (1.5–2g).
The chashaku's narrow, curved shape is designed to scoop matcha cleanly from a canister without packing the powder. A regular teaspoon tends to compress matcha, giving you inconsistent amounts. The bamboo also does not carry static charge the way metal does, so the powder releases cleanly.
Yes. Each chashaku is carved from a single strip of bamboo — no glue, no joints. The natural bamboo grain gives each scoop a slightly unique character while maintaining the traditional proportions used in Japanese tea preparation.
Wipe the chashaku with a dry or slightly damp cloth after each use. Do not soak it in water, wash it with soap, or put it in the dishwasher — prolonged moisture causes bamboo to warp and crack. Store it in a dry place away from direct sunlight.
You can, but the chashaku is calibrated for the density of matcha powder (approximately 0.5g per scoop). Other powders have different densities, so the weight per scoop will vary. If precise dosing matters, weigh your first scoop on a kitchen scale to calibrate.
A bamboo chashaku typically lasts 1–3 years with daily use and proper care. Unlike the chasen (whisk), there is no mechanical stress on the scoop, so it degrades much more slowly. Occasional light oiling with food-safe mineral oil can help preserve the bamboo.
Yes — the bamboo chashaku is included in both our Matcha Starter Kit and the 10 Piece Matcha Ritual Kit. If you already own one of those kits, you do not need to buy the scoop separately unless you want a spare.
The chashaku is approximately 18cm long — the traditional length used in Japanese tea ceremonies. The scoop end is roughly 3cm wide with a gentle curve. It fits comfortably in any standard matcha canister opening.
